How did you guys meet?
We went to the same high school, and sat next to each other in Computer Science classes. It wasn’t long before we were asking each other to the big dances like debs ball and matric dance, and we finally cemented the relationship in our matric year. We’ve been together for 15 years now.
Why do you want us to capture your wedding day? How do you think you’ll feel watching everything back in
years to come?
We have watched your videography and style for a while and really liked the way you captured different weddings. We get a sense of fun, enjoyment and love from your videos, and we’d like to have the same feelings when we watch our wedding videos again. We also like the stylistic choices you make when editing.
We know that the wedding day will most likely be a total blur, and it will be nice to see what actually happened after the hype and excitement has died down!
Tell me about the proposal – I love hearing these stories
Lara knew she was going to be proposed to, but she didn’t know when. I had already asked her family, and she didn’t know that, so she wasn’t expecting the proposal when it happened.
We’d gone away for our “Anniversary” close to Cederberg, and we were playing board games in the Jacuzzi and enjoying a bit of downtime after a day of exploring. I went to grab the ring and nervously asked if she would marry me, and luckily, she said yes. We then took photos and had Mac and Cheese to celebrate.
When you’re not in full wedding mode, what do you guys do for a living? What makes you tick? How do spend
your free time? What’s your ideal day?
We love heading out into the wilderness. We’re explorers at heart, and have never settled anywhere for very long. We’re currently exploring Scotland, and loving every minute. Our ideal day involves getting up early, grabbing a cup of coffee with some extra in a flask, and heading out with our two Jack Russells to discover something new.
We currently both work management positions at our companies, with Lara working on site in retail and me working remotely as a project manager.
Why did you choose the wedding venue? What was special about it when you seen it for the first time?
De Uijlenes is a beautiful venue. We’ve been up through Gaansbaai and the surrounding areas a few times when we lived in Cape Town, and I think we’ve always known it was an area that would be an incredible backdrop to a wedding.
Lara’s family is all based in South Africa, and many of our school friends, so we thought that even though we live and work abroad, this would be a special occasion to come back and do the wedding.
De Uijlenes in particular is stunning, and when we saw the forests, the cottages and cosy atmospheres, we fell in love. The fact that there was accommodation to host our friends was the deciding factor.
Tell me about your vision for the day itself. You can go in to as much detail as you like. Colour schemes, decor,
food, atmosphere, the dress?
The dress has been on a long journey as well – Seen 4 years ago, designed in Cape Town, flown to Manchester, altered in Scotland, and flying hand luggage back to Cape Town to complete the circle.
Our colour schemes are Greens, Maroons and pinks, and the flowers are going to be a showstopper piece.
What experience do you want to give your guests? Tell us everything and anything
you like.
The most important thing is that we will be meeting with family and friends that have been a small or large part of our relationship for many years, coming together for the first time in this huge group since before COVID.
We want to have a moerse party together with these fabulous folk, and enjoy the time we’ll get to see them all again. The party of this wedding will be by far the most important.
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years time?
Hopefully still exploring, travelling the world and enjoying our lives together as we have for many years already. Possibly with a small brood of our own, and the freedom to continue to live and work around the globe.
