Dale & Lucy / Johannesdal Wedding Video
How did you guys meet?
We met via Jswipe (the app) in London! But actually we were living right round the corner from one another. But we likely never had met. All of Dale’s friends were South African (he moved to London in [2015] and I didn’t know any.
Our first date was a summer picnic on Primrose Hill. We actually met first on the bus on the way there. I was running 10 minutes late and messaged Dale to tell him. He told me he was also and that he was getting on a bus (I was on the bus).
I knew where he lived roughly so I realised that he was going to get on the same bus as me. We had agreed that he was bringing Rose wine.
A man got on the bus at the bustop I thought was his holding a bottle of Rose from Waitrose. But I didn’t fancy him and thought I had been a little bit catfished! But then at the next stop Dale got on the bus ….. he stood next to me with his back to me and called me.
I debated whether to answer. And I did then he turned around and we first met with him smiling down at me on the bus. I will never forget that moment.
Why did you want us to capture your wedding day? How do you think you’ll feel watching everything back in years to come?
To capture the special feelings on the day and the ‘essence’ you can’t capture other than in video. To provide something fun for us to rewatch later.
Tell me about the proposal – I love hearing these stories!
Dale proposed at The Newt in Somerset. It is a beautiful stately home in rural Somerset in October 2020. He was going to propose in Iceland but (Covid). First we had lunch. It was apple season and so we had apple cocktails, cheddar and apple chutney sandwiches, and stilton and apple soup. Dale drank one too many cocktails…Dale was going to propose with a picnic on the lawn but it was torrential raining. We adorned our wellies and coats and umbrellas and went out in the blustering rain (It was a bit like Goblet of Fire maze out there). We want walking and I (as usual) was asking the garden keepers lots of questions about the vegetables. We went up to the apple press and Dale went to the bathroom for the millionth time. We were looking for a walk way over the forest (like a canopy walk). We were struggling to find it. We were on a dirt track on the way there and for a moment there was no one around. Dale said to me “are you having a good time” and I said “yes” and he said “good because there is something I want to ask you” … and he got down unplanned on one knee in the dirt and the rain and it was perfect😊
What do you guys do for a living? How do spend your free time?
Dale is an accountant and is obsessed with numbers and being practical and being planned. I am a lawyer (intellectual property) and I think with my feelings. Dale lives and breathes sport in particular Liverpool Football club. He loves spending time with family and friends and watching good movies and gyming and listening to podcasts and books about entrepreneurs. I am less practical — I love spending time with friends and I LOVE cooking and experimenting with it. I love reading fiction novels and going to art galleries. We LOVE travelling together it is our favourite thing. And I have got Dale into fine dining and gourmet meals out 😀 Our ideal today together would be exploring a new city together in the morning then spending the afternoon by the pool then going for sundowners and a lush meal out.
Why did you choose the wedding venue? What was special about it when you saw it for the first time?
Natural, beautiful, organic. The view. And the beautiful gardens.
Tell me about the vision you have for your wedding. What experience do you wish to give your guests?
In a nutshell, colour schemes are vintage/muted colours (peaches, creams, dusky pink, blacks). Décor is minimal chic with warmth. Theme is light (it’s Chanukah the festival of light. The root of my name means light). Experience for the guests should be warmth and love and SO MUCH FUN.
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years time?
Enjoying each other’s time and presence, still travelling, with kids (hopefully) and enjoying each day that this life gives to us.
